About Me
Fraser Yorston has been playing since the age of 11 where he underwent tuition from P/M Gordon Rogers whilst attending Breadalbane Academy. He joined the Vale of Atholl Novice Juvenile Pipe Band at the age of 13 and under the direction of P/M Scott Oliphant achieved great success in the novice juvenile grade as well as the juvenile grade in later years. The band played many important occasions at top venues including playing for Royalty at Hopetoun House in Edinburgh, Scone Palace and piping for 1st minister Alex Salmond, Fraser also played solo for important guests at Glamis Castle in 2009.
As well as regular trips to Ireland the band played further a field taking part in the Åsele Folklore festival in 2008 amongst a wide variety of performance artists. Whilst with the Vale of Atholl Fraser competed in many novice solo piping competitions including various high placements in the Scottish novice junior solo piping competition.
Fraser then joined Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia Juvenile Pipe Band for the 2009/2010 season where the band achieved world drumming champions, Lothian and Borders champion of champions and Cowal champions under the direction of P/M Ian Bowden. Fraser has also played many festivals and concerts around the folk circuit playing highland pipes, Scottish smallpipes, whistle, guitar and Cajon.
Fraser recently placed joint first at the LBPS annual competition in Edinburgh in April 2011. Fraser has played in Grade 1 (the highest grade in the pipe band world) for two years now having played twice at the World Pipe Band Championships as seen on the BBC. In the last two years Fraser has been a member of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland and has performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Phil Cunningham, Ally Bain and the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers.

Lit and Creative Writing and in the process of writing an historical novel about the Great Fire of Edinburgh in 1824. (In another 200 years it might be finished! )I may live in sunny Worcestershire but Edinburgh owns my heart and can't keep away! Now I have found the Captain's Bar (music Heaven) I shall be spending even more time in the city...I shall be quite bankrupt flybe-ing back and forth. Best get this roller coaster of a novel written then? Slainte!
